Frequently asked questions

What is Remote Online Notarization (also known as RON)?

Remote Online Notarization allows a signer and a commission Notary Public who is also commissioned as a Remote Online Notary to meet remotely via webcam to perform notarial acts. The benefit of this is that it's done completely online. However, the same laws apply for online notarial acts as those of physical notarial acts. The notary public will receive your document and upload it to the signing platform.A link is then emailed to you. Make sure to follow the link and upload the images of your state ID and answer security questions. After you complete and pass the verification, you will receive another link via email to follow so that you can meet your notary via webcam to electronically sign your document. Please keep in mind that sessions are recorded and saved throughout the process. An e-mail containing the notarized document will be sent to you after the session is complete.

How is the signer identity verified when using an online platform to get documents notarized?

Platforms use Knowledge Based Authentication also referred to as (KBA) to verify each signer's identity. This process is required by states since Remote Online Notaries cannot physically inspect a copy of the signer’s. identification. KBA requires five security. questions that are generated based on history found using your (the signers) social security number, credit report, and state-issued ID. Some questions asked maybe about your past addresses, make and model of your vehicle etc. At least five questions must be generated. Some type of credit history is required to satisfy this part of the screening process. Please note that KBA can't function if your credit report is locked or frozen. You must answer four out of the five questions correctly within two minutes. Only two attempts can be made within 24 hours.
To use KBA you must:
1. be a U.S. Citizen
2. have a social security number
3. have a U.S. mobile phone number
4. have an e-mail (Yahoo or Hotmail address won’t work)
5. hold a driver’s license or other state-issued ID (Passport will NOT work)

What payment services do you use?

CMS Notary Services accepts, PayPal, and Wix Payments which consists of debit cards( Visa, & MasterCard), and Credit Cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover, JCB).

We have created some packages for you to choose from when booking your appointment online. If you require a package for notarial acts that are not listed please contact us and we will create a custom package based on your needs.

What is a Notary Public?

A notary public is someone that is appointed by their state to act as a impartial witness to the signing of important transactions and perform notarial acts to validate each transaction. A notary public main purpose is to prevent forgery, and fraud by making sure the signer/signers are physically presence doing each transaction and successfully identifying them via a valid and acceptable form of identification.

Are Notaries in Florida licensed?

A notary public is not licensed but commissioned by the Governor of Florida with assistance of the Secretary of State.

Can a Notary Public who is commissioned in Florida perform notarial acts in other states?

In order for a commissioned notary public in the state of Florida to be able to perform notarial acts outside of their commissioned state is by being a commissioned RON (Remote Online Notary) in the state.
